About the profiling
The work on population census is to identify the Sama DiLaut (Pala’uh) communities and the actual number of population scattered in coastal areas and islands off Semporna. This population census had conducted in 5 phases, started in Mac 2015 until November 2016. IBS had invited by ESSCOM to participate in the 3rd phase, and 4th phase which is in the third phase of population census covered the Sama DiLaut settlements in Pulau Nusa Tiga, Kg. Halo and Kg. Bangau-Bangau. While in the fourth phase, the population census covered settlements in Tun Sakaran Marine Park (Pulau Bohey Dulang, Bodgaya, Maiga, Sibuan, Selakan & Mantabuan), Pulau Bum-Bum (Kampung Patau-Patau, Kampung Hidayat, Kampung Tanjung Baru, Kampung Sampolan) Pulau Gusungan, Pulau Bohean, Pulau Denawan & Pulau Mabul.
The population census was headed by Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), and the outcome of the findings will be used for security and development purpose of the Pala’uh people in Semporna
