UCSF 3rd CONVOCATION 2024

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed faculty, beloved family and friends, and my fellow graduates,

Today marks a significant milestone in our lives, where we have faced numerous challenges, such as online classes during COVID-19 for the first semesters, which tested our resilience. But despite the obstacles, we persevered and grew stronger together.

Growing up as a Eurasian wasn’t easy for me, as I was considered a minority and often felt like an outcast. This experience, however, taught me the importance of understanding and embracing our differences, which has shaped who I am today.

I would like to thank all the lecturers out there for your unwavering support and dedication. Your guidance has been invaluable in shaping our journey.

To my family and friends, thank you for your constant encouragement and belief in me. Your support has been a source of strength throughout this journey, and I am profoundly thankful for your presence in my life.

As we move forward, let’s remember the words from King’s Man, “Reputation is what people think of you; character is what you are.” Our character will define our true success, more than any recognition.

To all the juniors out there, my advice is simple: know what you want and go for it. Find your goals and pursue them with determination. Your time here is an opportunity to discover your passions and lay the groundwork for your future.

Growing up in Labuan, a place where the oil and gas industry is a prominent part of daily life, I often saw people in SLB (previously known as Schlumberger) coveralls, which symbolized not just a job but a mark of excellence in the field. I remember looking up to those figures and dreaming of one day being part of such a prestigious company. Today, as I stand before you, I am living that dream. I am honored to work at SLB, serving seven countries across East Asia and collaborating with the very managers I once admired from afar. This journey from a young dreamer in Labuan to an HR professional, working at SLB’s East Asia headquarter.

My hope is for all of us to succeed in our unique ways. With the strong foundation that we’ve built here, I’m sure all of us are capable of achieving greatness.

Congratulations, everyone. Here’s to the bright future.

Thank you.
