Scientific Exploration of Flora, Fauna and Community in Conservation Area, Kampung Singgaron Baru
About the research
The main research objective is to identify flora, fauna and social potential’s of the village to help the community draw up the water-catchment conservation area and management plan. The involvement of related agencies and NGOs to support the local community at Kg. Singgaron Baru, Ranau. Researchers from IBS conducted a community survey to identify the economic structure, eco-tourism potentials and environmental issues faced by the community at the proposed conservation area.
A survey of bats diversity also was held on 21-24 April 2016. To sampling the bat, five units mist-netting and a unit of traps harp’ has been installed in two main trails:
- Waterfall trail
- Piso trail.
Findings have recorded 13 species of bat, which consists of five families: Pteropodidae, Emballonuridae, Hipposideridae, Rhinolophidae and Vespertilionidae. The presence of unique and endangered several species has been recorded in the area: Coelops robinsoni Harpiocephalus Harpia and Chironax melanocephala shows forest ecosystems in this area should be preserved and conserved for the sake of sustainability not only bat species, and species of other wildlife
